Good morning, dear readers! I hope you are well. Today we are going to learn about the "flipped classroom" approach and its implementation in language learning. First of all, what is flipped learning? Flipped classrooms are a form of "blended learning" and teaching method that aims to improve student participation and retention by providing online lessons for students to do at home and working on real-time problem solving in class. With its learner-centred nature and prior delivery of content, the lesson becomes less instructive and more engaging for students. However, I must say that there is too much dependence on technology in flipped learning, and it also relies on students' autonomy and motivation to follow online courses.
Our task was to create a grammar lesson for high school preparatory students, so with my friends Alperen and Abdurrahman, we decided to create an online video about frequency adverbs. First, I gave the students a text with frequency adverbs and asked them to order these adverbs according to their frequency, then Alperen gave the students the answers with explanations. Finally, Abdurrahman practised the topic with more examples and I gave an interactive activity prepared by Abdurrahman for the students to complete. I also created a Taboo game for in-class activity.
The most difficult part of our lesson was creating the video for the lesson because we were adding our own videos using Zoom, so it needed more attention than the voice-over. So we did a lot of takes to make the video perfect :)
We used Zoom to create our video with face cams, we thought that Zoom was the most suitable and convenient tool to create an educational video, Wordwall for the interactive activity and Canva for the Taboo game. Alperen used Capcut to edit our videos and make transitions. Finally, we uploaded our video to Youtube as all students can easily watch the video via Youtube.
