Hello everyone! in this blogpost of mine, I will write about my experiences of being a part of an online collaborative writing task in which I worked with my friends Alperen and Ozan. The task required us to work collaboratively to write a film review for a university magazine on Google Docs. Therefore, we chose "Shawshank Redemption" for reviewing. In our review, we wrote down basic informations about the movie such as the characters, the place or the director. Additionally, we added the themes of the movie, some structural and fictional details to give the actual message and further understanding of the film. Moreover, we mentioned of some quotes and major incidents happening during the film. Lastly, we stated how important and impactful this film was by referring to the awards and claims it received.
During the writing process, each of us took one/two topics to write about. After finishing the first writings, we put them in an order and then we gave advice as to make any change or add any more information in our paragraphs. It was just like a peer learning and checking process so it was informative for everyone to work collaboratively.
As a tool for online collaborative writing, Google Docs was quite convenient and easy to use for me. As we utilized it in our other previous tasks, we were familiar with it and its features. From the collaboration perspective, I can say that it was very useful because we were able to write down our opinions simultaneously and this led us to see each other's work and even comment on them. Besides, it automatically saves the document and shows the grammatical mistakes. So, I can say that for any task that involves working collaboratively, Google Docs is a wieldy and accessible application for students in terms of its prevalence since it doesn't require any additional software.
